Located on the Oregon coast, Bandon is one of the western most towns in the lower 48 states. Passing through on Highway 101, the casual visitor is oblivious to the amazingly beautiful seascape just out of view. I planned a trip where I would stay three nights and extreme low tides would occur around sunrise and sunset each day.

Photos coast1 and coast2 are but a small sample of the photographic possibilities. I chose to render them in black and white because that medium can often do a better job of conveying the mood of the moment than can color. With monochrome images, the eye is drawn to structure, textures and shapes.

Denny Dyke is a Bandon local and he brings happiness and joy to visitors with his sand labyrinths. Volunteers help to complete each of these pieces of art by raking the sand giving it a darkened tone that is distinct from the walking path. The path through is winding but straightforward. There are no path alternatives that could lead to confusion. Instead, the labyrinth walker enjoys a Zen like experience while passing through. Expect to be welcomed by Denny as you enter the walk.

Images love1-5, shows a work that Denny created for Melissa who is afflicted by stage 4 leukemia. Five equestrians on a sundown beach ride passed by and may be seen in love5.

Mermaid1-4 shows construction and the final result. The items in Mermaid1, 2 were all found on the local beach, so there was no spoiling of the beach.

Dear friend, may you too visit Bandon and have the pleasure of visiting a truly awesome coast.
